Mesa Verde, Colorado. One of the cliff dwellings built by the Ancestral Puebloan people, frequently called the Anasazi. The Anasazi are believed to have abandoned the site sometime around 1300. When you look at the site selection for these dwellings it is immediately apparent that they were selected primarily as defensible positions, not for convenience.
